Small Business Saturday

American Express launched the first ever Small Business Saturday on November 27th, 2010 to encourage shoppers to support local small businesses in their communities. The movement quickly grew, with the U.S. Senate and President Obama formally recognizing Small Business Saturday in 2011. By 2014, over 80 million people shopped at small businesses on Small Business Saturday, generating an estimated $14.3 billion dollars. This year Small Business Saturday will be Saturday, November 28th.

For small businesses that would like to participate, owners can visit American Express’s Small Business Saturday website before November 28th to take advantage of free marketing materials as well as social and digital materials.  You can also visit their Facebook page for up to the minute information and resources.  This year however American Express will not be offering card members statement credits when they shop at participating small businesses.

For those small businesses looking for additional tools and resources, the Small Business Administration offers more material on their website as well. For shoppers looking to support participating businesses or how to help your community participate, more information can be found here.
