Starting a business is a big achievement for many entrepreneurs, but maintaining one is the larger challenge. There are many standard challenges that face every business whether they are large or small. It is not easy running a company, especially in a fast-paced, ever-changing business world. Technology advances, new hiring strategies, and now, political changes coming with the new administration, all add to the existing business challenges that entrepreneurs, business owners, and executives have to deal with.
Maximizing profits, minimizing expenses and finding talented staff to keep things moving seem to be top challenges for both SMBs and large corporations. We have been interviewing companies from around the world to discover what challenges they are facing in their businesses. We also asked each company to share business advice they would give to a younger version of themselves.
Below is our interview with Rob Basso, Founder and CEO at Advantage Payroll Services Long Island:
What does your company do?
As the largest independently-owned payroll, HR and tax-filing business in the New York metro region, our company, Advantage Payroll Services Long Island, provides comprehensive payroll, HR and tax-filing services for business clients from all sectors. We offer a wide variety of Human Capital Management along with time and attendance services using the best-in-class technology. We recently purchased and moved into a new state-of-the-art headquarters in Plainview, New York that allows us to add staff as well as additional HR and benefits management services.
What is your role? What do you enjoy most about your role?
My role as CEO and founder of our company is to build long-lasting and trustworthy business relationships that are essential for business growth. I lead a team of professionals who are dedicated to finding and offering solutions that provide the greatest cost and time savings for our business clients. I am also a strong believer in investing in my staff since they are the ones who are responsible for interacting with customers and sharing our vision. I am focused on building a staff comprised of entrepreneurial-focused and motivated individuals. I see my role as a leader who creates an environment where my staff and managers are empowered and recognized for their accomplishments. I lead by example and by participating in events and activities with my staff that support philanthropic and community involvement. This enhances morale, camaraderie and productivity.
I enjoy having a leading role and growing a successful business while creating opportunities for other people to grow and have careers. While challenging at times, being a business owner and entrepreneur allows me to provide important services for businesses, allowing them to grow, hire and overcome the challenges that they face regarding payroll, HR, tax filing, regulations and business growth. I am genuinely thrilled when I see a member of my team grow in their position and advance their careers. I am equally pleased to see a client we work with solve problems, operate more efficiently and grow in terms of staff and profitability.
